The Floodgates of Heaven

In 1998, we were a family of six that was struggling financially, living week to week. We struggled to pay our bills. At a New Year’s Prayer Service, we felt the desire to make a commitment to faithfully tithe. Prior to this, we had tithed when it was convenient to us, but not faithfully.

So, one Sunday came and we had to make the decision of whether to pay some bills or tithe. We decided to tithe, because we had recently made this commitment. On Tuesday, our check cleared and on Wednesday, we received a phone call for a job with a large corporation. I ended up doing the job, and they wanted me to start immediately and through that, God has used this company to bless us financially because of the commitment we made to tithe. During the last ten years, we have never been short of our payments. There are some months that we have had more than others, but we have never been short.

We have been shown the promises of God and have experienced the floodgates of heaven. We are testaments of this. Years later, we learned that the phone call was not even intended for us. By the grace of God, we received that phone call.

We encourage others who are in the same boat we were in to trust God. Test Him. Malachi 3:10. See if He doesn’t open the floodgates of heaven. There comes a point when we learned to turn all our finances over to God.

Once money started coming in, we learned how to manage the 90%. So, in 2002, we began learning from Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University and are teaching these principles. It’s helped us to be debt free. We have paid off everything, with the exception our home, which is almost paid off. It’s about educating yourself. Once you do what God’s Word says and He blesses you, it’s up to you to take what He has given you and continue to sow into the kingdom of God.
